Get to know…Mercedes Scott

Mercedes Scott, Business Development Manager

Today we’re talking to our Business Development Manager for the South East, Mercedes Scott who recently joined the West Fraser team.

“I was a showroom manager for Travis Perkins, designing kitchens and bathrooms for customers.  Working for a merchant, I was familiar with Norbord (now West Fraser). I was impressed with how well-thought of the company is with the merchants and, so when I saw a vacancy in the sales team, I thought I’d give it a go!” says Mercedes.

“The format of the first interview really impressed me.  I was asked to describe what I am passionate about which I thought was a really good way of putting me at ease and it gave the interviewers a real insight into who I am as a person”.

When I started in my new role, I got the chance to visit the processing mill in Inverness.  I was struck by the scale of the operation and I felt at home sitting down with Alan Kirkpatrick, Technical Sales Manager, to discuss the manufacturing processes.  I had previously worked for more than four years for a rooflight company, Glazing Vision, and part of my role was to advise architects on which products they should specify for their particular projects, making sure they adhered to building regulations and health and safety.  Seeing that West Fraser adhere to strict health and safety practices was very reassuring!” says Mercedes.

Having worked with contractors and sub-contractors, Mercedes is very aware of building schedules and is committed to providing a high level of customer service, making sure the customer has what they need when they need it.

“I like working for a company with a strong brand name, who is a leader within the panel industry, and I’m really encouraged that West Fraser is so committed to producing sustainable products” Mercedes says.

So, what does Mercedes do to unwind when she’s not looking after her customers?  “I have a young son, so most of my time away from work is spent with him.  Before the pandemic, I used to love trips to the theatre, but I’ve got out of the habit!  Maybe that’s something I’ll have to take up again!”.
