Dan Andrew, Senior Key Account Manager
Today we’re getting to know Senior Key Account Manager, Dan Andrew, who has worked at Norbord (now West Fraser as we know!) for over nine years. During this time, Dan has been a business development manager, regional sales manager, key account and senior key account manager.
When Dan graduated from Staffordshire University with a degree in Business Management & Entrepreneurship, his Dad, having spent over 30 years in the industry at a local builders’ merchant himself, recommended a career in merchanting. Dan’s working life started with a graduate management trainee position with Wolseley UK. “Starting in a timber yard, I gained valuable experience in a busy local branch, learning from a great team of people who were willing to share their skills and knowledge. I experienced work in the timber mill, I-Beam plant, warehouse, busy trade counter and sales office”, says Dan. This experience continues to serve him well at West Fraser and he is pleased that the branches he worked in during his formative years are now part of the branch network he serves!
With a sound start at Wolseley, Dan was already familiar with Norbord and so a move to the company was very appealing! As Dan says “I could see that Norbord’s people put into practice the cornerstones of the Norbord Europe culture: excellence as standard, trusted relationships and working with our customers to achieve win-win outcomes”.
So, does Dan think he made the right move? “Definitely!” he says. “In an industry where products are often commoditised, it is our people who make the difference. We work in partnership with our customers, whether they have traded with us over the short or long term. Understanding that customers have a stake in our success, the same way that we have a stake in theirs, is vital. Our team understands customer problems, proposes solutions and strives to do the right thing by them”.
Dan would have no hesitation in recommending a career with West Fraser. “As the business has grown, I have developed too; I have been fortunate enough to undertake numerous training courses in sales, negotiation and key account management” he says.
