Supporting mental health at West Fraser every day

In Mental Health Awareness Week, West Fraser Europe is emphasising the way the company raises awareness and supports the wellbeing of our team throughout the whole year – and onwards.

Our North American parent is hosting a “Go Green Day” on site on 15 May; a day dedicated to shining a light on mental health resources and promoting a positive workplace environment.

The support systems available to all staff include an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) and trained Mental Health First Aiders.

We thought it would be a great idea to give you – all of us – little reminders of what we can do every day to help our overall health so off we go – literally!

Volunteering – it feels good to help others.

Swapping the car for walking – giving yourself the Walking challenge. Or parking further away.

Drinking at least seven glasses or water a day; this has a significant impact on mental clarity.

Doing exercise to increase endorphins and reduce cortisol. Examples include dance classes, park run, or gentle run.

Getting a good night’s sleep – switching off the ‘electronics’ at least two hours before bed – reducing the doom scrolling.

Eating more fruit and vegetables.

Giving yourself mental rest breaks through the day! Stop, breathe deeply for three minutes and just pause. This is proven to have a significant impact on your mental health.

Gardening – get outside in nature and feel the benefits of the great outdoors. Sit with nature!
