Get to know…Dan Stabik

Dan Stabik, Senior Key Account Manager

Working at British Gypsum in central operations running supply chain projects, Dan Stabik was able to learn many skills that benefit him today in account management at West Fraser.  “As a project manager I learned many skills, such as managing stakeholders, effective time management, change management as well as general organisational skills.  I then moved into the field as an area sales manager looking after the West Midlands area.  Looking after national builders’ merchants in the area I gained a real understanding of their operations and their external sales organisations and saw how they service their customers.  I also had direct relationships with dry-lining contractors and, as the direct contact, dealt with any issues they had”, says Dan.

The experience Dan built-up over his seven years at British Gypsum put him in a good position for a move to West Fraser, but not before he did his homework!  As Dan explained “Working in this sector and dealing with the same customer base allowed me to do my due diligence on West Fraser.  I also know the area sales manager on my patch and was able to get an insider’s understanding of the business and the culture in which it operates.  Once I had a clear understanding of the role and the company’s expectations and I was able to meet the people inside the organisation, the opportunity was too good to resist!  The chance to work with a customer set that I really understood, in a role where I could develop and move my career forward, with supportive management was pivotal in me accepting the role at West Fraser”.

So, has working with West Fraser lived up to Dan expectations?  “Definitely!  I’ve always believed that managing a customer’s expectations with effective communication is key to good account management and this is certainly a priority at West Fraser.  I’m fortunate to have built up successful relationships in both the West Fraser team and with our customers”.

Is there a piece of advice Dan would share with other account managers?  “I’ve learned that it’s a very long road to success in an account role, so celebrate the wins and learn from the losses, and move on!” suggests Dan.
