The successful applicant will:
Establish and maintain effective Health & Safety for our business ensuring that the plant operates with the highest standards of Health and Safety, in line with compliance, H&S and Environmental legislation.
The Health & Safety Manager will lead the development and delivery of the Health and Safety strategy and practice across all functions in the operational site. With the focus being to develop a positive safety culture where Safety is the highest priority. The role holder will be accountable for the management of health and safety within the business. Including site staff, contractors, sub-contractors and visitors.
Main Roles & Responsibilities for this role:
- Be a proactive member of West Fraser`s safety programmes, including taking part in system development and safety programme committees;
- Maintain a working knowledge of all relevant health and safety legislation, ensuring the company has clarity with regard to all its statutory obligations;
- Demonstrate a regular presence on the shop floor, championing and promoting a visible, vibrant, and positive H&S culture which reflects the mission, objectives, and values of the business;
- Develop safe operational procedures and processes which drive continuous improvement in H&S performance and ensure compliance across the site specifically to meet all legal requirements in the implementation of safe working practices;
- Work closely with managers to ensure that risk assessments, COSHH assessments and management system audits are conducted and followed up by appropriate corrective actions;
- Ensure all necessary risk assessments are fit for purpose and offer the strongest possible means of risk mitigation. Assist line managers in developing risk assessments and safe operating procedures for all tasks;
- Conduct incident and non-conformance investigations and carry out trend/root cause analysis and ensure corrective actions are implemented;
- Conduct site inductions.
- Maintain records, documents and standards required to meet site safety obligations;
- Monitor, track and communicate H&S performance and ensure the delivery of the overall improvement plan including the setting of goals, agreeing priorities and establishing adequate systems for performance management;
- Establish and report measures of H&S performance across the business (inspections, audits, checks etc);
- Actively participate in site audit programmes (internal and external);
- Liaise with CWP industry bodies / regulatory bodies as required, such as WPIF, EPF, HSE and SEPA.

The minimum qualifications/experience required for the role:
- 3-5 Years previous experience at Health and Safety Manager level
- NEBOSH (General Certificate) or equivalent is essential
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to demonstrate their approach to get people involved in H&S initiatives.
